Eons ago, when Skyrim had not yet been ported to all things and 2020 had not yet been fucked, I was heavily impressed and excited by the look of Skyrim. I never played an Elder Scrolls game previously, and by the look of the marketing material, Skyrim was this polished, deep RPG where the graphics, writing, and mechanics would all be in perfect sync.
Then Skyrim came out and it wasn’t – I liked Skyrim, but it’s mechanically bland, the writing can be interesting but never feels very dynamic or interesting to me, if I’m honest. I don’t know why, but something about the game feels very static, or bland, or dead?
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is exactly what I had planned for and imagined back then, and it’s a really special experience. I’m still early in the game, but the mechanics are challenging and interesting, the writing is fantastic (for me, the story and characters feel original, unique and compelling to a degree rarely seen in games – only The Last Of Us, Dark Souls, and maybe a couple of other games have given me the impression that they created a truly original, internally consistent, and moving story), and the game generally feels compelling to play, unlike Skyrim where I tried to be interested but could not maintain it.
One of the highlights of the game so far was when, after a drunken night with the local priest, he was so hungover he required me to do a sermon for him. I did my best, but utterly failed to move the crowd – only after getting a bollocking from the local authorities and the congregation had left did I realise I had forgotten to put any clothes on, giving me a big debuff to any sort of charisma or social standing.

The game is astoundingly good, and I can’t compliment the writing enough. The biggest criticism I can give is that it is absolutely not a polished experience: my load times are long and can occur randomly at points you wouldn’t expect to see them; there are some bugs, and combat with more than one opponent currently seems nearly impossible to manage. However, if you bear through these minor flaws, the game is astonishingly good, worthy of a lot more praise and discussion than I’ve seen it get anywhere online.

- Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Why So Much Hate? A review. (Minor spoilers)Disclaimer: My general metric for how good a game is, is how much fun it is. Graphics are nice, a compelling story is nice, good music is nice, but if the game is not fun, I do not consider it a generally good game. Some background: KCD has been on…
- Skyrim's Disappointing SoundtrackSkyrim has a ton of glaring issues but one of the ones that stick out the most in my eyes is it's mediocre soundtrack. Every track on it except for the Song of the Dragonborn is completely forgettable. The Song of the Dragonborn itself is only memorable because it's the…

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart.
One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.
In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.
Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
